About Us and the Theme SongAbout Us and the Theme Song

We created the project and wrote the theme song because many of our friends and family have been affected directly or indirectly by child abuse, and we really wanted to create the possibility of hope and healing for those children affected by abuse, as well as provide the opportunity of hope and healing for those who get involved in the project.

Where It Belongs
Where It Belongs (Theme Song for Voices Of The Children) There’s a place in my pastWhere darkness used  to liveAnd when Dad came home, I’d run & hideAnd hoped he wouldn’t hit A black eye here, a couple bruises there,Another toss against the wallLeft me feeling not too loveableAnd not much good at all That was the image I created for myself Plucked from behind, I lived into Shadow of myself… Now that’s all behind me, that’s all behind me,That’s all behind me, where it belongs!I have a new me, there’s hope within meThere’s peace inside me -- where it belongs. So many children in the world, So many silent tearsThey know no other way of life, but living in their fears Silenced by a heavy hand, Their voices never heard,We’re here to be their voices now, To help their cries be heard Let’s shine our lights into the darkness of the world,Let’s build anew and start within,Forgiving here and now!!! It’s all before us, it’s all before us, It’s all before us, where it belongsWe have a new hope, for loving families and peace for children, where it belongs,  It’s all before us, it’s all before us, It’s all before us, where it belongsWe have a new hope, for loving families And love for children where it belongsDignity for children where it belongsAnd peace for children where it belongs

Special thanks to my Dad, who helped me write this song from heaven above.
Notes

This song was given to me pretty much the way it is.  Its sole purpose is to raise awareness of what it's like to be a child on the receiving end of a heavy hand and what it can do to a child's self image, so be prepared when you listen to it.  There are so many other forms of abuse and neglect suffered by countless children, some of which may be parents today.  We are all voices of the children if we embrace healing and hope for families as a possible future, regardless of the past.

Please know that I completely forgave my father a long time ago, and acknowledge that even as an abused child himself, he created a new hope for our family, and broke the cycle on his own.  I have so many fond and precious memories of him that far outweigh the bad.  From "The Tickley monster", to incredible camping and  backpacking trips, hiking trips near Sedona, Arizona, silly polkas, dirtbiking, and perhaps most precious of all, the way he nurtured and encouraged my love of writing and music.  So please join me in honoring his loving memory, and know that he most certainly helped me write this song from heaven with the intention of helping others break the cycle as well.

This song is intended to raise the level of awareness of the impact of child abuse, and to create an opportunity for people to break the cycle and really make a difference. Please click the "Info" link above for more info about the song and the author's roots.
